SMS Communications

While email is the default communication method for BarkPass users, your customers can also opt in to receive SMS messages, a powerful option since SMS typically has much higher open rates.

Customers can opt in to SMS when creating their account, purchasing their next pass, or anytime by updating their personal information in their profile. Because SMS participation requires explicit consent, the process involves two steps: authorization and verification. Once activated, the customer will receive all BarkPass notifications and messages via both email and SMS.

Account Creation

When creating an account, customers enter their mobile number and check the box authorizing SMS communications. After saving their account, they’ll first verify their email address.

Once email is verified, they’ll receive a text message with a confirmation code to verify their phone number. They’ll enter that code into the on-screen prompt to complete activation.

They’ll receive a text message with a code to verify their number, which they’ll enter into the on-screen prompt (same as account creation). When successful, the button will turn red and display “Deactivate SMS.”

Managing SMS Preferences

Customers can activate SMS anytime by visiting their personal information page and following the same steps. If they don’t complete the verification process, they can return later and click “Get Verified” below the phone number field.
