Offering Membership Pre-Sales and Free Trials

When selling recurring memberships, Barkpass allows you to define a period at the beginning of the membership where customers are not yet charged. This is commonly known as a "free trial" for other subscription services.

You might use it as a way to start selling memberships before your park opens. This prevents customers from being charged until they are able to use a park.

Memberships with trial periods are advertised as such on your landing page:

Defining a membership trial

To define a membership trial, visit your Pass Settings. Scroll to the "Membership Trial" section.

By default, No trial period is selected for recurring memberships.

Select one of the trial options to offer a trial period to your customers:

Trial for a number of days

This option is useful if you want to offer every user a free number of days before they are charged for your membership.

Select this option and enter a valid number of days greater than 1, then click Save.

Trial until a specific date

This option is useful if you plan to open your park or start offering benefits for a date in the future.

Select this option and enter a valid date, then click Save.

Tip: Once a trial date has elapsed (exists in the past), any new customers signing up for a membership will be charged immediately and not receive a trial period.

Heads-up: Defining a trial period on a pass with existing memberships does not affect existing memberships. It only affects customers who subscribe after you change these settings. You can modify existing membership subscriptions in your Stripe dashboard if you'd like to offer additional credits.

Disabling Trials

To disable trials, visit your Pass Settings and select No trial period under the Membership Trial section.

Existing trial memberships will remain as trials until they are converted into paying memberships at their trial end date.
